Democracy |
Democracy in the western society is purely based upon the Greeks life style, particularly the Athens. A great man named Solon was elected the first archon, and because of him and the Athens, we have basic everyday foundations. For example we have a government, certain rights and opportunities for people of age, weights, and measures. Without this substructure, our democracy would be very different today. As one can see, they western society built sorely on Greek behavior and culture.

Art
The Greek art has greatly impacted our view on storytelling, expressionism, and history. Greece had many sculptors who could creatively tell a tale of a great god, or mythical creature through their work. Some examples of Greek art that lives on today are pottery, sculptures, coins, and even architecture. Today we base things like pots and bowls from the simple basis the Greeks made for us, and many of the great artists today survive off of the influential works of the ancient Greeks. Many famous memorials and monuments use the general architecture given to us from the Greeks. That leads us into our next subject.

Greek architecture is seen in our lives everyday, and you may not even know it! Famous memorials and monuments such as the Lincoln Memorial, and the White House have the fascinating structure just the same as the Parthenon and the various temples made for several gods and goddesses. In fact our country is not the only one to be influenced by this style of architecture! In addition to temples and buildings, the Greeks also made coins with stamped symbols of either gods or cities on them, and just like they are today, certain coins are more valuable than others. This was their currency in a way, and as one can see we still use a modernized version of this currency today. Finally our lat subject will be the science behind the Greek culture.
